A place for sharing, learning,
discussion, and fun!
I am an English teacher in a local secondary shcool. One of
the aims of setting up this homepage is to let learners of
English have a chance to use proper English in everyday
life. In here, you are welcome to read my articles in the
'Blog' section; share your views, discuss current issues
with other learners of English or chat with me in the
'Forum' section; and learn more about English through
different websites recommended in the 'Links' section.
Apart from learning English, this is also a place for you
to meet friends.
Language is a very interesting subject. The more you use
it, the better you can master it. If you can spend some
time every day practising the language you want to learn
well, improvement can be seen within a short period of
time. However, don't expect you can master it without
practice.
Let me tell you my secret of learning a language. I will
listen to songs in that language, watch TV programmes with
Chinese subtitles when my proficiency of that language is
not very good. But when I reach a certain level of
proficiency, I will not rely on the Chinese subtitles. I
will try to remember some phrases I heard from the TV and
then check the phrases with the dictionary. I will talk to
myself in that language all the time, for example, in the
shower, on the bus, whenever I am alone, and practise with
someone who knows that language. I will also write my diary
in that language.
Talking about learning a foreign language, there is no
short cut. You must create an environment in which that
language can be used as much as possible.
